Perlego - from the Latin meaning 'to scan with certainty' - is the name of iKnowledge' s automated card reading and graphics generation system.

It has the capability to revolutionise the production of poker - and other games - on TV. The system was devised to help overcome the key challenge of televised poker: how to show viewers the cards in every player' s hand.

Traditionally the answer has been to use a glass table, with the cards viewed by cameras underneath. Alternatively, or perhaps in addition, cameras could be aimed over the shoulders of the players. Once the cards are captured on camera the graphics are manually entered into the system and then displayed on the screen. The whole process needs a lot of people and costs a lot of money.

The iKnowledge solution was to develop a system that tracks the cards automatically while enabling the players to keep their cards close to their chests.

We add infra red bar codes to the cards. They are invisible to the human eye but can be scanned as the cards are being dealt, automatically generating the graphics.

If a player instinctively tries to hide the faces of his cards the traditional system can miss out on important data. Using our system, the viewers know what' s on the table before the players.
