Trainee Scheme.
PA Sport editorial traineeship.
As the world's leading sports information provider, PA Sport is able to offer one of the best traineeship opportunities in the sports media industry.
Trainees, based in the company's operations centre in East Yorkshire, get varied experience in one of the biggest and most modern multi-media newsrooms in the industry, working alongside talented and experienced people.
Outline of Editorial Trainee Programme
The two-year programme covers every aspect of sports writing and production through attachments to the various editorial desks in PA Sport's state-of-the-art newsroom.
The traineeship covers writing and sub-editing sports stories for national and regional newspapers, our international sports wire, national and regional Teletext service, website management, creating web-ready WAP, SMS and MMS digital packages and some page design work for suitably qualified applicants.
After the first year, the programme allows scope for the trainees to spend additional time within the department most suited to their talents and ambitions. Trainees who make the required progress within the departments are free to apply for any full-time positions that arise across the editorial operation.
Required Qualifications/Experience:
Applicants will, in most cases, have a formal Journalism qualification and should be able to demonstrate their enthusiasm and ability through relevant cuttings gained from full-time work or work experience. Candidates will have a keen interest in, and a wide knowledge of, sport. But most important is a commitment and a real desire to be a sports journalist and make your mark in fast-moving and challenging environment.
As a global company, strong language skills are highly-prized, as are training and experience in page-ready production disciplines and, increaskingly, knowledge and skills in multi-media news-gathering and production techniques.
Recruitment is conducted on an ongoing basis and those interested should send a CV, covering letter and completed application form available to download from here.
Applications should be sent to Mr Marc Shaw, PA Sport Editorial Manager, PA Sport, Bridgegate, Howden, East Yorkshire, DN14 7AE.
