A brief history of PA Sport.

1868 - The Press Association registered as a limited company.

1883 - Charles Pardon, PA's first Sports Editor, appointed.

1905 - PA first start to use the telephone to supply sports results

1906 - Agreement signed between PA and Exchange Telegraph for joint collection of football, racing and cricket news.

1946 - Joint PA/Reuters photo agency formed.

1954 - Norman Gowers breaks the story of Roger Bannister running the world's first sub 4 minute mile.

1990 - PA acquires Extel Sport Services.

1993 - PA acquires Sportslink UK and moves its sports operation to Leeds in the north of England.

1994 - PA Sport becomes the official data partner of the Test & Country Cricket Board (TCCB), which was the precursor to the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

1994 - PA provides the feed for the first ball-by-ball Test match coverage on the Internet.

1997 - PA Sport establishes a UK national network of football reporters in all regions.

1999 - PA Sport launches the International Wire, with coverage from major sports worldwide. 

1999 - PA Sport implements its Football Live system for top flight English football, revolutionising the collection of football data.

2000 - PA Sport becomes the official data partner of the English Premier League, the English Football League and the Scottish Premier League.

2000 - PA Sport awarded the management and administration of the British Greyhounds Racing Board (BGRB) central racing database.  

2000 - PA Sport provides first comprehensive coverage of the Paralympics. 

2001 - PA Sport moves its UK operations centre from Leeds to Howden, East Yorkshire.

2001 - PA Sport becomes the official data partner of the British Horceracing Board (BHB). 

2004 - PA Sport starts covering all qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup, with the Maldives versus Vietnam.  

2005 - PA Sport acquires Sport Services Group, now PA Sport Services.

2005 - PA Sport acquires Sportev, now PA SportEV.

2005 - PA Sport sets up an operation in Mangalore, India. 

2005 - PA Sport becomes the official data partner of the Champions League of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

2005 - PA Sport becomes the official data partner of the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) and sets up PA Sport SA, with local partner Umliba.

2006 - PA Sport acquires iKnowledge.

2006 - PA Sport acquires SportsTicker, now PA SportsTicker, the leader in American sports information.

2007 - PA Sport implements a second operation centre in Pune, India.  

2007 - With its new operation centre in Connecticut, US, and operations in the UK, Hong Kong and India, PA Sport now has follow-the-sun operational coverage.
