The Sporting Year in Numbers.

January 2007 - With the FIFA World Cup, the Ryder Cup and the Ashes Series being just a few of the events covered over the last twelve months, 2006 was an action-packed year for PA Sport, the world's leading sports information provider. We delivered greater coverage of more sports than ever before and broke many of the year's biggest news stories.

Wherever and whenever an event took place, PA Sport was on hand to report the "live" sporting action, 365 days of the year, via our network of 1,500 journalists in more than 200 countries around the world. As goals hit the back of the net, wickets fell and racehorses edged past the winning post, PA Sport kept the world informed, transmitting live updates and results to the media within seconds.

In the twelve months of 2006, PA Sport reported:

7,202,140 minutes of football action

PA Sport journalists watched more than 75,000 matches and provided official statistics for the English Premier League, the English Football League, the Scottish Premier League and the South African Premier Soccer League. We also compiled data for Serie A, the Bundesliga, the Primera Liga, the domestic leagues in Holland, France, Portugal and Russia and the UEFA Cup. We were the only company to cover every qualifier leading to the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals.

85,380 football goals

This included 5,732 penalties and 1,579 own goals. In 2006, our journalists saw 3,218 offenders sent for an early bath and 46,880 yellow cards brandished.

153,222 cricket runs

We provided score updates from every Test and One Day international, from Bangalore to Brisbane. We supplied ball-by-ball coverage of all County Championship matches on behalf of the ECB, as their official data partner.

123,568 horse and greyhound races

PA Sport attended every domestic race meeting, gathering official data for UK horseracing and the official greyhound database. We also provided results for every meeting in Ireland and South Africa and every Group One race worldwide.
