The Road To South Africa Starts Here.
October 2007 - The next World Cup may be two years away but the qualification programme is already underway with the first games taking place in the South American (Conmebol) zone.
In the first step towards offering the ultimate World Cup microsite for web and mobile, PA Sport will be at every match with our correspondents filing live on the key incidents.
We will deliver our Standard Live service on each and every match over the next two years - including advance fixtures and on match day:
- team line-ups before kick-off
- goals with name of scorer and time
- red and yellow cards and substitutions as they happen
- half-time and full-time score
PA Sport will be in each of the FIFA zones
The South American competition will be run in a league system during the next two years.
In the other five zones - Europe (UEFA), Africa (CAF), Asia (AFC), Oceania and North and Central America (CONCACAF) - the qualifying campaigns will be fought out in different formats, with the draw for the worldwide groups made in Durban in November 2007.
Some preliminary matches have already taken place but the full qualifying programme will begin during the course of 2008 culminating in the final rounds in late 2009.
Comprehensive, Fast, Accurate Content
PA Sport will provide a fast and accurate xml feed of all of the data from the outset.
This will develop into a richer stream of data and editorial content from around the world as the competition progresses.
Customers can sign up for that now along with archive data and features looking back at the history of the world's biggest sporting competition.
From early 2008, PA Sport will be offering a full Road to South Africa package including editorial, stats and multimedia content.
