January 2007 - iKnowledge, a PA Sport company, is delighted to announce the launch of Perlego, an innovative new product, which will change the way broadcasters cover live Poker games.

Perlego is an automated card recognition system that delivers on-screen captions making them instantly available with far richer content and information.  Perlego will improve TV Poker coverage, yet at the same time reduce production costs - that's a winning hand for any programme maker or broadcaster.

Perlego was invented by iKnowledge the leading provider of automated data-driven TV graphics.  It has been jointly developed with Sagentia, a world-leader in technology management and product development.  The system's design uses an invisible infra-red code coated onto each card in the pack.  The coding allows the cards to be viewed through standard cameras and identified using the Perlego system.  In turn Perlego makes it possible to deliver on-screen graphics in an instant.   Importantly, the ‘look and feel' of the cards remains the same allowing the players to play their natural game. 

Being data-driven, the system can simultaneouslycontrast the live game-play outputs with past-performance information on the players.  It offers more creative and relevant editorial outputs and options. 

Televised card games have built a loyal following over recent years.  The traditional approach to creating on-screen captions and information involves over-the-shoulder and/or under-table cameras, which are invasive and costly.  They need an observer to firstly identify the cards and secondly to input the information.  That can result in delay and errors in identifying the cards, inevitably making captions follow behind the commentary, compromising the ‘live' feel of the show.

With Perlego producers have on-demand access to a new range of editorial content including; expected next-plays, game forecasts, player-dominance measures, playing-style profiles, together with in-running head-to-head analysis.  In summary, there's more content, it's more accurate and it's undetectable.  Commentators get the inside information ahead of the plays.  The system's content heightens the drama and tension, bringing the audience closer to the action.  Perlego is also adaptable for other televised card games.
